Summer Gen Ed Course: ATMS120 PS & QRII
ATMS 120: Severe and Hazardous Weather will be offered as an online course again this summer during the second summer session. It is a 3 credit hour course that counts as a Physical Science and Quant II general education course and is very manageable as a summer course. Also, this course was recently given the "University Professional Continuing Education Association Award for Online Courses in 2012".

Fall Course Option: PHYS150 Physics of Societal Issues, PS & Q2
This fall course offering satisfies physical science (PS) and quantitative reasoning 2 (Q2) gen eds. Appropriate for non-science majors. Here's the blurb:
Science is not just for scientists. This course, intended for nonscience majors, will educate future leaders as well as ordinary citizens to understand the science and technology aspects of societal issues. Topics include energy, both conventional and alternative (wind, solar, etc.); climate change; satellites; nuclear energy and weapons; radiation; earthquakes and tsunamis; medical imaging; modern electronics. No background is required, the only prerequisite is curiosity. There is no lab or discussion section. Students are required to read the textbook and participate in lecture using iclickers.

Math Gen Ed Options
One of the math advisors was nice enough to pass along these blurbs about two math gen ed (quantitative reasoning) options available for the fall. If you are preparing for a major that does NOT have specific math requirements (email me to confirm) then you could consider:
- Math 181, A Mathematical World, is a Quant 1 course that is suitable for students who will not need to take calculus. The recommended ALEKS Math Placement score for the course is 30%; there are many seats available and more will likely be opened throughout the summer
- Math 124, Finite Mathematics, is another Quant 1 course that will be opened to students outside of ACES next week. The recommended ALEKS Math Placement score for the course is 50%. The available seats are in a blended format: half in lecture and half on-line, which can help fit the course into a busy schedule.
