The Career Center Summer Services


The following services will be available over the summer (May 14 through August 17):

  • Career Resource Center Hours: M-F, 8:30am-5pm
  • Career Counseling or Pre-Health Advising Appointments: M-F, 9am-4pm (call or stop by to schedule an appointment)
  • Career Consultant on Call (drop in for a quick question on job search, career/major exploration, resume/cover letters, grad school applications, etc.): M-F, 12-5pm
  • Pre-health Drop-in Advising (drop in for quick questions on professional school application process, pre-requisite classes, preparation tips, and all things pre-health related): T, Th, F, 2:30-5pm

* Please note The Career Center will be closed on Monday, May 28th and Wednesday, July 4 in observance of the holidays.

Need Resume Help?

The Career Services Paraprofessionals are now available for resume reviews at the Ikenberry Commons every Wednesday and Thursday evening from 7-8PM in room 1010A.  They are also at the UGL Mondays and Tuesdays from 7-9PM; Wednesdays from 10AM-noon; and Sundays from 2-6PM.    And of course, you can find them in The Career Center between 2-430PM, Mondays-Fridays. The Research Park Career Fair

This Career Fair showcases the intern and full-time opportunities available at The Research Park for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign alumni and currently enrolled students. Sales Communications Course (AGCM270) 

• Summer evening course—online virtual classroom one night per week and still work/intern during the day! 
• 3 Credit Hours—Meets live online for discussion on Mondays from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. from June 11th to August 2nd. 

Learn about the sales process, roles, dynamics, and principles of sales communications needed by those selling, promoting, or marketing any product or service. Students will learn methods for how to set objectives, plan, conduct, analyze and evaluate sales techniques. Those working in any capacity dealing with the public would benefit from learning these applied interpersonal skills. 

Sociology Majors and Minors Fair - Internship & Volunteer Opportunities

This is a great opportunity for students to meet faculty informally to talk about classes and research opportunities, to learn about career paths for SOC majors, and to find internships/ volunteer opportunities.


Numerous organizations are participating in various ways, offering internship & volunteer opportunities.

Library Gaming Career Night 2012

Curious about what it’s like to work in the video game industry? Come to the Library’s Gaming Career Night 2012, where artists, programmers, writers, IT managers, music composers, and others from local game company Volition, Inc. will answer student questions about what it takes to succeed in the industry.  Art students, game designers, and others are invited to bring in their portfolios to be reviewed/critiqued by Volition staff, and all Volition attendees will be available for 1-on-1 and small group discussion on networking tips, academic advice, and job seeking insight.

The event takes place on Thursday, April 19th from 7-10pm in room 291 of the Undergraduate Library.

Internship & Job Bootcamp

A program hosted by the College of Media at the University of Illinois.

Summer is right around the corner and many of you may still need internships or jobs. Come to Digital Bootcamp, a professional development and recruitment event, on March 30 – 31, 2012 at the University Center. This is a great opportunity to learn about current practices in the industry, how to build your own digital portfolio and, of course, to network with recruiters from Leo Burnett, DraftFCB, Digitas, and more. 


Digital Bootcamp will feature Jack Klues (CEO of VivaKi) an expert in utilizing new technological tools, as the keynote speaker. Architecture Career Expo

During these two days, employers from across the country representing the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning will come to the University of Illinois campus to showcase their firms, build relationships with the University, and interview potential candidates for both summer and full-time employment. Conflict Resolution Certificate Program

The Conflict Resolution Certificate Program will allow students a formal opportunity to develop conflict resolution skills and enable them to effectively utilize the skills learned in professional and personal relationships.  The program takes a proactive approach by preparing students to resolve conflicts they may encounter in the future. The program will train students on several key skills necessary for resolving conflict.  Participants will learn methods for managing conflict, as well as, understanding and identifying underlying issues surrounding conflict.  The training will provide students with skills to not only resolve their own conflicts, but to also assist their peers in resolving their conflicts.  The program will prove valuable to students throughout their lives and will allow students the ability to reference a formal training when presented with future conflicts.

Call for Peer Tutors

The Writers Workshop is looking for Peer Tutors. For more details, please read the following announcement from Libbie Morley, Director of the Writers Workshop:


The Writers Workshop is looking for a few exceptional undergraduates to join our PEER TUTORS, and we need your help to find them. These students should be sophomores, juniors, or seniors in any major next year. They should write very well and enjoy working with other students on writing. If you can identify such students from your advising ranks or from past and current classes you have taught, please send their names and email addresses as soon as you can to Libbie Morley elmorley@illinois.edu.  We will send each student an invitation to apply. (You don't need to contact the student first.)


The Writers Workshop Undergraduate Peer Tutoring Program seeks:


*  To provide professional experience to undergraduates interested in teaching, writing, research, or consulting careers or in graduate and professional education.


*  To provide academic inquiry in Writing Studies.


*  To provide undergraduate students in general with additional writing tutoring services in the Writers Workshop. Peer tutors will work only with other undergraduates; they will not replace the graduate student consultants.


Peer tutors will take WRIT 203 in Fall 2012 as training. During Spring 2013, they will tutor on a regular schedule as part of an independent study course. In future semesters they may be chosen to tutor for hourly pay.

Big Ten Conference Career Expo

Looking for a full-time job or internship for this summer? Then look no further than the Big Ten Conference Career Expo presented by Bacterin International. This one-day event is held in conjunction with the Big Ten Men’s Basketball tournament and is open exclusively to students and alumni of the 12 Big Ten universities. Last year over 70 employers participated, and more than 83% of the companies surveyed stated that they planned on hiring someone they met at the Expo. Need help revamping your resume or honing your interviewing skills? Professional career counselors will be available on site to give you points on interviewing and offer suggestions on how to improve your resume. Computers and printers will be provided in the Cyber Café so you can edit and print before meeting with prospective employers. It's FREE to attend, basketball tickets will be given away throughout the day, and a special breakout session "The Sporting Life: Careers in Sports" will be taking place. Interested in exploring how you can use your skills in writing and communication in the federal government? Join Annenberg Speaker Owen Highfill for breakfast as she talks about her path from an English degree to becoming an Operations Specialist with the Office of Conservatorship Operations in Washington D.C. Owen will discuss how she has combined her commitment to public service with her liberal arts background.  Discover fields available in the federal government and learn how you can be a part of this great mission.  Breakfast will be provided. 3-4:30pm: Government Drop-Ins/Resume Reviews, The Career Center, Resource Room
Annenberg Speaker Owen Highfill will meet one-on-one with students to help you with your resume or discuss your questions about federal government. This is a great opportunity to speak with someone who has real knowledge of the federal government hiring process!  Drop-ins will be on a first-come first-serve basis; sign-ups will start at 2:45pm in the Resource Room and may be cut off around 4pm.  


6:30-8pm: Exploring Government Careers, Greg Hall, Room 223
Interested in exploring government careers? Join Annenberg Speaker Owen Highfill, Operations Specialist from the Office of Conservatorship Operations as she shares her experiences working in public service and discusses the opportunities that you can find in government.  You will have a chance to network with Owen, hear about her interesting path, and ask any questions you may have about the federal government.
